Typical of the purple beach, the 'Purpurea Pendula' has rich, shiny plum colored leaves that emerge fairly late compared to other deciduous trees. 'Purpurea Pendula' grows smaller and more shrub-like than its larger, narrower counterpart 'Purple Fountain', reaching a mature height and spread of about 10-15'. The central leader is rarely significant; rather its mounding shape lends itself to being used on the top tier of a water feature or specimen for bonsai. We stake ours to height, then let them mound naturally. Zone 4-7
