Ginkgo biloba 'Chi Chi'
Chi Chi Ginkgo
'Chi Chi' is a multi-stemmed, slow-growing ginkgo that forms into a dense mound. It typically grows to only four or five feet tall with a fan shaped habit, over a span of ten years. This variety features the same distinctive, two-lobed, somewhat leathery, fan-shaped leaves. 'Chi-Chi' is a male clone of the species, so it lacks the fruit that tends to steer people away from the female ginkgo. Its cultivar name translates as "breast" in reference to unusual swellings that appear on the bark of the plants after 10 years, which are clusters of dormant buds. The green leaves of 'Chi-Chi' turn a uniform golden yellow in autumn. Zone 3-8
