Pinus sylvestris 'Albyn Prostrata'
Albyn's Prostrata Scotch Pine
Not to be confused with other weeping scotch pines, this variety grows flat on the ground and is commonly used as a ground cover. It originated as a seedling in the Albyn Nursery of Ohio in the 1960's and was formerly called Pinus sylvestris 'Albyns Prostrata'. It is still not very common in the trade but is gaining popularity for its strong growing habit and thick, glossy green needles that keep their appeal throughout the year. A mature plant can grow three feet to four feet wide and will be only eight to ten inches tall if left unstaked. Zone 3-8
