'Little Gem' is appropriately named. It is a miniature green globe in habit and needle size that has become very popular since introduced in the 1950's. It originated in Holland as a witch's broom of Picea abies 'Nidiformis'. Whether on standard or in its low form, this plant is excellent for patio plantings or in rock gardens. Getting denser with age, it will not outgrow its location; a 15-year-old stock is only three feet wide and one foot tall. Zone 2 - 7
