'Tricolor's' foliage mix of purple, pink, and white in the spring is dazzling; one of the most impressive of any foliage plant. Although the tree will attain considerable size in time, it has a very slow growth rate, similar to that of 'Spaethiana'. It takes time and a lot of shearing to get good branching on a young plant.
