The new foliage is a very bright yellow that contrasts handsomely with the dark-green, older foliage. 'Sekkan sugi' will take summer heat without sun burning when established and given adequate moisture, though it can experience winter burn in exposed locations, but the new growth is quick to cover it up in the spring.
