This dense, slow-growing upright Cryptomeria is a new selection, and has gained popularity as growers see the matured plant. 'Black Dragon' has beautiful light green juvenile foliage in the spring that turns a very deep black-green in the summer, hence the name 'Black Dragon'. This color contrast is delightful, especially for companion plants with golden hues. 'Black Dragon' grows no more than four to five feet in height, averaging three to six inches of growth per year. Judging by its demand since its introduction, 'Black Dragon' is certainly one of the best of the dwarf cultivars. Zone 5-9
