This variety of Cephalotaxus grows similar to Irish Yew, and is often referred to as Japanese Plum Yews because the fruit it produces bares a striking resemblance to the edible plum. In the spring, new growth on this conifer is striking yellow, turning dark green by mid-summer. It grows very columnar and fairly slow, and tends to be unattractive to browsing deer.
