Plant
Acer palmatum 'Red Emperor'
Red Emperor Japanese Maple
'Red Emperor' is similar in appearance to 'Bloodgood', however; its leaves are thinner and it has the distinct advantage of not leafing out until about two weeks later in the spring. In areas of the country that are prone to a late frost, 'Red Emperor' has an exceptional advantage. The dark red leaf colors last throughout the season, and in the fall, the leaves turn to a dynamic, fiery crimson, and stay more intense than 'Bloodgood's'. This variety of the Japanese Maple also grows taller than the species in general, as it can reach heights of 15 to 20 feet. Zone 5 - 7
